APC, PDP clash on ordeal of Delta flood victims

The Delta State chapter of All Progressive Congress and its Peoples Democratic Party counterpart, on Thursday, engaged in a war of words, over the alleged abandonment of flood victims in the state.

The APC accused governor Ifeanyi Okowa, of allegedly failing in his duty to respond to the needs of Deltans who were victims of the recent flood disaster in the state.

In a statement signed by its state Publicity Secretary, Mr. Sylvester Imonina, the APC said, “It is a fact that horrific flood has displaced many Deltans who live in the riverine areas of the Delta and because of the negative effects of the flood, lives, homes, farmlands and businesses have been lost in most of these communities. In fact, the pains/trauma that those affected are going through cannot be quantified.

“Delta APC and indeed Deltans, are surprised at the ‘I don’t care’ attitude of Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa, towards the horrible conditions that these Deltans find themselves in.

“Till date, no internally displaced persons’ camp has been set up to house them for the meantime nor palliatives sent to them to cushion the starvation that stares at them on the face every passing day.”

In response, the state Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, dismissed APC’s claims as tissues of lies.

Osuoza, in a statement he said, “Of course, despite all the mischievous pranks of the lie telling APC, and its infantile publicity machinery, the popularity of the governor and the people’s support for his good works, have continued to soar, even in the face of the challenge that the world-wide Covid-19 pandemic has constantly posed with dwindling sources of funds.

“The APC propaganda machine, of course, Deltans are not moved by the falsity of APC’s claims and crocodile tears.”
