Ogun Assembly confirms TASUED VC, ex-NUJ president commissioners

The Ogun State House of Assembly has confirmed the Vice-Chancellor of the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, as the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology.

The Assembly also confirmed a former President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Waheed Odusile, as the Commissioner for Information and Strategy.

The Assembly, presided over by the Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, on Thursday confirmed the nominees following their appearance at the screening by the lawmakers on Monday.

The Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff, who presented the report of the screening at the plenary, moved a motion for its adoption, which was seconded by Sylvester Abiodun.

The report read in part, “The curriculum vitae and credentials of the nominees were carefully scrutinised by honourable members. Thereafter, members interviewed the nominees. In the course of the interview, it came to the fore that the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-Ode, the institution where Prof. A. A. Arigbabu is the vice-chancellor and the accounting officer was indicted by the state audit report submitted to the Public Accounts Committee of the House, hence the ongoing investigation into the financial records of the institution.

“However relying on the legal presumption of innocence, which states that an individual is considered innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt, the committee found Prof A. A. Arigbabu eligible and suitable along with his colleague, Mr Odusile Oduola Abdul-Waheed to assume the exalted office of state commissioners.”
