Kano police arrest 242 for robbery, kidnapping, others


 The police in Kano have arrested 242 robbery, kidnapping and hard drug suspects in various parts of the state.


Parading the suspects at the Kano Police Command Headquarters on Friday, the command’s Spokesperson, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, who represented the state Commissioner of Police, Habu Sani, disclosed that the suspects were arrested between September 9, 2020 and October 16, 2020.


He stated that one 19-year-old suspect, Yusuf Saleh, broke into a shop in Mariri area of the state and carted away beverages.



Haruna said prior to burgling the store, Saleh stabbed the store owner; an old man, alongside his children before fleeing with the stolen products.


The police spokesperson said following a tipoff, officers from the command’s ‘Operation Puff Adder’ stormed the hoodlums’ hideout where a PoS machine was recovered among other items.


Also, Haruna said another suspect, Lawan Yusuf, (Aka Alhaji Bardo), aged 23, stabbed one 18-year-old Nasiru Umar and snatched his motorcycle in the Kura Local Government Area of the state. He noted that the suspect rode the motorcycle to Badimu in the Bichi Local Government area, where he handed it over to his agent to sell it before he was arrested.



Those arrested during the raids include 24 robbery suspects, 17 kidnap suspects, eight vehicles thieves, 10 tricycles thieves and 17 motorcycle thieves. Others are, five rape suspects, six drug dealers,16 fraudsters, 67 suspects, who specialised in phone robbery, among others.



The command stated that items recovered from them included nine assorted arms, two AK47 rifles, one Beretta pistol, two locally-made pistols and six locally-made guns.
